Guided tour : Paris of labor and workers

Paris of labor and workers: discovering Bas-Belleville (XIth arrondissement)

Saturday, November 4, 2017, 3 pm.

The visit proposes to go to the discovery of the still numerous traces of the "faubourg des métallos", a high place, until the 1960s, of "fabrique parisienne" broken out in hundreds of complementary workshops and nested in the habitat . The district was a home of sublime and subtle people, mixed with the common people, and was a land of choice for revolutionary and working-class struggles. From June 1848 to August 1944, through May 1871, its streets were covered with barricades. In calmer times, the labor, trade union and political movement made it a durable fief.

On November 4, we will meet at 3 pm, at the exit of the metro station of the metro (line 2). From rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud to rue Oberkampf, with detours through Moret, Trois-Bornes and Fontaine-au-Roi streets, you will find traces of the past by visiting a working-class city built at the end of the 19th century , the Maison des Métallos, the headquarters of the powerful unions of the Paris metallurgy, old industrial courts, typical neighborhood, converted factories lofts and offices. The itinerary will finally be punctuated by reminders of historical events associated with various places.
